Change your clothes. Even if you’re already wearing something comfortable, change into something else that’s still casual and comfy.

Eat your favorite food. A bowl of rice, ice cream, pasta, make a sandwich, anything that makes you happy.

Eat some fruit. A banana, apple, peach, pear, some berries, fruit is always a good option.

Eat some protein. Cheese, meat, eggs, rice and beans, ect. Something to give you energy.

Drink lots of water. Fill up a water bottle and keep it with you, but remember to actually drink it.

Find as many pillows and blankets as you can around the house and pile them on your bed. THE MESSIER, THE BETTER!

Bring your acquired snacks into your room. Even if you don’t make a habit of eating in your room, make an exception this time.

Bring a couple of your favorite stuffed animals to share your nest with.

If you have cats, invite them as well.

Watch an episode or two of your favorite show GUILT FREE. Nothing sad! Watch something that will make you smile and laugh a lot. And ENJOY IT. Give yourself this time to decompress without stressing over a million other things. I know it can be hard, but YOU CAN DO IT

Hang a sign outside your door, letting family members/roommates know that you are currently unavailable. Be polite, courteous, and take their needs into consideration if they need something from you, but it’s okay to have a little chunk of time all to yourself when you’re having a tough day. We’ve all been there.

Turn off your phone. Just for a little while so you can completely relax. Stay off social media too - you don’t need any drama right now.

Once you’ve finished your show and eaten a healthy amount of food, do something productive. Even if it’s just one or two little chores - sweep, do the dishes, tidy up your room, dust, reorganize the bookshelf, whatever. Do something that will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something. Even if it’s little, be proud of yourself for each task!

Listen to music while you’re working. iPod, record player, radio, etc. Make it something up beat with a nice and lively tempo.

Dance and sing. I don’t care if you dance like a fish out of water and sing like a dog whose tail was stepped on, you are a beautiful contribution to this world so don’t be afraid to shine!

Alternate in doing tasks throughout the day with doing things you enjoy. Paperwork and then a walk (fresh air always helps!), mop the floors than read that book you’ve been wanting to explore.

Talk to a friend if you need to. If you don’t think you have anyone to talk to, let me be the first to tell you, YOU DO! There are thousands of kindhearted people on here who would love to get to know you and want to help you and hear about your day if you are feeling under the weather.

Remember that this is today. Every tomorrow is another chance. Everyone has rough days, and sometimes we get a whole long string of them, but life is so much more than just the bad days. Go to bed knowing that tomorrow is a new start.

Hello, everyone - and people who want...

motivatedhealthysuccess:

Hello, everyone - and people who want to be productive, especially!

So, my summer holiday started a week and something ago, and I already started missing school. I don’t worry about that very much, because, of course, there are other ways to be productive, as well - but, also, relax is a thing. I’d love to list some!

Also, I decided to stop doing a promo, because I honestly don’t want to get more notes just because my blog may hire you followers… Sorry. I hope you understand, xoxo <3 Still love you ^^

Let’s get to our masterpost!

1. START YOUR DAY RIGHT

Morning Routine (super important): When you set up a routine you follow early in the day, you provide a structure, an outline for everything you will do. Once the structure is in place (that’s the hardest part), the rest is just following along.

Wake Up (early): This may be the second hardest part of your day, but it will make yourself proud. The No. 1 rule is, to go to sleep at decent time - I’ll recommend being it at 10 - 11 PM. Here are some other useful tips & tricks!

Make Your Bed: This will make you feel like you’re doing something good and starting your day right + also, an awesome habit for life!

Breakfast: Start the day with the glass of water right after you wake up. Then eat something, that actually fill your tummy and don’t forget to add some fruits & veggies ^^ Also, healthy snacking.

(Quick) Hygiene: Brush your teeth, your hair (probably put them in ponytail or bun?) and wash your face and hands. If it is your habit, you can also take a shower! + Quick Hairstyles for short and long straight (wavy) hair & for short and long naturally curly hair to keep it out of you face!

Yoga: Stretch is awesome for increasing your health. It makes you feel super good about yourself and also makes yourself more awake. Try this!

Working Out: If you’ve ever worked out, you know how awesome it feels when you sweat and work on your healthier self. Also, don’t forget how proud you’ll be after one! There are loads of different workout sets so you can make a schedule and work on each part of your body every day or do a full body ones! These videos are really awesome!

Music: It’s good to make a playlist filled with songs that give you a happy and motivational feeling or just make you feel a good way! I definitely recommend to listen to some tropical sounds, especially in summer - it makes perfect atmosphere! Also, you can listen to some of your favourite ones! Check out this masterpost to find different classical music that suit your mood!

+ more about how to have a good morning!

2. STUFF THAT WILL FILL YOUR DAY WITH PRODUCTIVITY

A Complete Guide To Studying Well

Homework + Resources (school work): Do everything you need to do for school first. This will make you “free” and after you’ll have everything done, you can focus on everything you really want to do! Also, doing school things will make you feel most productive - and you probably don’t want to start your 4,500 words long essay night before your school starts. Here’s quick guide to manage your study time + how to get your homework done!

Learning Languages: As we live in world, where there is enormous amount of languages that are actively spoken, it’s important for loads of people to speak at least one foreign language. You can focus on studying some on duolingo or memrise <strike>(my username on duolingo is: motivatedsuccess, you can add me <3)</strike>. Here’s another helpful masterpost + learning languages online!

Reviewing Notes (from last school year): This makes the informations you’ve once learnt active, and it’s less possible that you’ll forget them! You’ll also get ready for entrance exams, if you have one. This will help you reviewing in less time and you can also make your notes prettier!

Planning Your Day (+ getting a summer routine): As I spoke about a morning routine, this one is important as well. You can find loads of printables here, that will help you organize tasks you need to (or want to) do throughout the day and you won’t miss anything important. It will protect you from procrastination as well and help you accomplish a goal.

Don’t Procrastinate: This one’s really hard, I know - especially in summertime when there’s no deadline which will push you to productive mode. Here, here and here are some useful tips about stopping procrastination and spending time without that. Be strong + check out another 15 ways to beat procrastination!

Bullet Journal: As leads from “planning your day”, the bullet journaling is one of the most effective days for doing it - not for everyone, of course, but you can learn everything you need to know about it here! If you want to set up one, this video may be helpful <3

Setting + Accomplishing a Goal: Don’t forget to be realistic with this one! You can easily fail when setting up really big and insane goal. Here’s little guide on doing it right! Also, 101 ways of rewarding yourself!

Reading: It is the best thing you can do to increase your writing and public speaking = vocabulary expansion. It also makes your memory work better. Here are some other benefits + a list of very good books!

Use Pomodoro Method when doing a n y t h i n g you want to focus on

Organizing Your Life, Your School Stuff, Your Desk and Your Place: This will make yourself more “together” and your life will be suddenly brighter, I promise. It’s also great to create better habit in cleaning and being always organized. Life feels better when everything is in place, doesn’t it?

Speaking of organizing, get your life back on track

Watching Documentaries: This activity is way more productive than binge-watching shows on Netflix. Not only you get to know new facts about new topics, but you also relax while doing it. Here are 25 documentaries you should definitely see + this, 26th one!

Visiting Museums: This one is super educational! You can definitely visit some in your area or go somewhere farther + take notes, if you want to! Here are 100 museums to visit before you die and here are some reasons to do that!

Khan Academy: This is the website where you can easily find loads of topics to learn about & it can also help you with understanding some stuff during school year! You can learn something they won’t teach you in school, which is super exciting and awesome!

Check out some study playlists?

Improving Your Handwriting, it will make you very proud of yourself and help you with note-taking next school year!

Writing: Try to write anything - try to write 300 - 450 words (at least) about any topic that comes in your mind. It can be poetry, story, masterpost, review of your day, article, essay… literally anything! Even if you aren’t good at it, just read some tips and do it - you’ll also improve yourself!

Learning How To Play an Instrument, it’s awesome relax and also it increases the artsy part of yourself + other benefits!

Get a Job / Volunteer: Making money throughout your chill days is awesome! Just imagine how many stationery you will buy! Here are some resources on how to do that!

Clean Your Place / Room: Set up a day when you’ll do that, for example on Sunday, and do it every week! Stick up a schedule and get it done! It really makes you feel responsible… If you don’t know how to, learn about it here!

Watch some educational videos on YouTube?

3. HAVE SOME FUN, RELAX AND CHILL

Procrastinate (a little bit): I know what I’ve said above, but summer is not about being productive ~*all the time*~. It’s your time to unwind, relax and get rid of school stress and deadlines, that are hunting you. It’s okay to binge-watch Netflix from time to time. Don’t worry and don’t be so strict to yourself ^^ <3

Have a Bath: After a long day, the hot bath is one of the most awesome relax & treat for your body - don’t worry about an environment for the moment. (Do a DIY Galaxy Bath Bomb?)

Watch Some Shows: Since school started in September for me, I stopped watching TV completely. Summertime is awesome time to do that! Just wake up on Saturday, stay in yo’ pyjamas & binge-watch these 33 shows on Netflix.

Discipline: “discipline is doing what needs to be done, even when you don’t want to”, which means that you have to force yourself to start doing things.

Concentration: when you make a real effort in your work (study, homeworks etc…) you will be more likely to actually focus, understand and learn.

Organization: always set tasks and goals and organize a study-schedule. Maybe you don’t really want to plan all the week, but if you just wake up and open your agenda/bullet journal/iphone calendar and write down all the things you have to do, setting due dates and deadlines, you’ll feel more conscious and encouraged to stay on track.

Tasks-splitting: sometimes, you write down your tasks. Some of these tasks may be very hard and complicated, and it will take a long long time to complete them. So, you can split them in smaller tasks, so you will feel satisfied after a shorter period of time, instead of studying for hours and still seeing that chapter undone on your study-schedule.

Watch the sunrise: when I wake up late, I feel like I don’t have enought time to do my work and lose my motivation. I literally panic and then I think “whatever, I could not complete all the things anyway”. So, if you wake up earlier you will feel more positive and controlled.

Smart reading: try not to read your textbook just like a newspaper. For every paragraph you read, try to underline and write down key words and then your question about that subject. Literally, turn your textbook into questions. If you write down question - particularly why…? - and think about the answer, you will be more likely to remember that stuff later.

Healthy lifestile: if you don’t drink enough water in the morning, you will be more likely to have a decrease of concentration in the afternoon/evening, so: stay hydrated. Try also to have some snaks every one-two hours: feed your brain.

School is hard! And it’s even harder to make...

studysystem:

School is hard! And it’s even harder to make yourself pick up those books and start studying.. So this is how I get ready to revise:

Get Comfy!

wearing uncomfortable clothes will ruin your concentration

who wants to wear jeans all day anyway????

so put on those sweatpants and get cozy!!

my fav outfit: fleece-lined leggings, a tunic sweater, and fuzzy socks!

in the summer I love athletic shorts and a t-shirt

also put your hair up!

I like a braid or my signature study bun

but a ponytail will do

Get Moving!

exercising can help you retain information!

as seen here

make sure to keep it light not so much that you’re sweating

do 15 jumping jacks, 10 sit-ups, and 5 push-ups!

or take a quick walk around the house

trust me, it will make your day ten times better

Snack Time!

make it healthy

too much sugar will make you feel crummy

go with something that has more vitamins, fiber, and protein!

make some on the weekends to avoid wasting time

some of my favorites

blueberry banana smoothie bowl <– it just says smoothie but add less milk to make it a bowl

banana nut muffins (you can add chocolate chips if you want)

pomegranate

baby carrots and sweet peppers

pistachios!!

trail mix (homemade is the best)

pretzels dipped in cashew butter

tell me if you have more!!

Clear the Area

keep your desk clean

here are some cute organizers! X X X

try not to keep extra supplies on the top of your desk

it can get cluttered really quick!

keep all books, stationery, notes, etc. close at hand

open your windows and let natural light in!

Get Relaxed & Pumped!!

save a few motivating quotes and read them

turn off your phone!!!

take 2 minutes to breathe and listen

drink some water!!

START!

do one easy assignment

like a worksheet

then move on to something creative

write part of an essay or work on a project

now, do your hardest assignment

and Finish It!!!!

do something simpler

do another worksheet

revise and condense from today’s lesson!

work on things you have to memorize

vocabulary

use flashcards or other methods like summary foldables (one of my favs thanks sareena! @studyign)

After Studying

time to relax!

read!

go on tumblr (you’ve earned it)

watch netflix or youtube

paint your nails

spend some time on your hobbies

YOU’RE DONE

all the pre-studying shouldn’t take more then half an hour

don’t procrastinate!

Who can resist reading another little post full of tips to help you get more work done? Here is a few things that I find useful when trying to get myself motivated.

Clear desk, clear mind - I like to organise things before I start working. If things are messy, I get a little preoccupied and procrastinate even more. My suggestion is clear your desk, sort everything you’ll need to study and get on!

The two minute rule - If a task that needs to be done takes less than two minutes, just do it. My dad has often suggested that this is a great way to sort out your priorities and so far it has worked for me. Things like check my emails, cross off events from my planner, file something away don’t take long but get you in the mood for productivity. As they say “object in motion, stay in motion”.

Break your time up - Schedule your study time and any breaks you need to take. This helps structure your day and acts as a motivation to get things done. Especially if you can reward yourself at the end!

Leave your phone alone - Like most people I use my phone constantly but when I’m trying to work, it is best to leave it alone. Out of sight, out of mind. Try leaving it on silent and behind you so you aren’t tempted to pick it up after every beep. Use your break times to check it.

Find your top three to five priorities - Seeing a long list of things to do is usually, for some people, kind of counterproductive. Figure out the main things that need to be done and work on those. If you’re able to complete those main things, you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished the days necessities and may even want to complete some more.

Try using a mindmap instead of a to do list - Apparently using a mindmap layout instead of a traditional list can help boost productivity. It is a little more funky way to see all your outstanding tasks and might not look as overwhelming as a super long list.

Wear headphones - You don’t have to always listen to things but it can help block out any noise that can distract you. If you’re someone that likes some music, try songs with little or no words. This is a great playlist by Spotify.

Don’t multitask - As much as you think you can do it, trying to multitask usually ends up in a confused mess and takes twice the time. Stick to one task at a time. If you think of something you need to do, write it down and do it later.

Change things up - Doing the same things in the same place can get boring. Make the effort every now and then to change where you’re studying or how you’re studying. This can include moving your studying from the desk to the kitchen table for a change of scenery, or making flash cards instead of annotating your notes. Studying with a family member or friends is a fun way to get some work done!

Be positive - Most people have times when they just don’t want to study or anything, it is natural. However it is not worth sitting staring at your books in an unmotivated mood just waiting to feel inspired. If you’re not feeling it, do something else for a while. Come back to it a bit later and have another go. Usually walking away and coming back is all you need to feel more productive.

I hope these few tips are useful! These are the kind of things that work for me, so give them a shot and let me know if they help. Best of luck with your studies x

No teacher will ever tell you how to study, they will only say that you have to study.

No one has any idea how to study, they just try out things and see what works for them.

There isn’t a “standard” or “universal” way of studying but there are tips and methods that work for most people.

1 method won’t work for everything.

When it comes to languages, you’ll have a plan or an idea of what you should do, but you need to be open minded and flexible. You adapt to the situation.

Having a partner for studying might be a blessing or a nightmare, it depends on you.

Always have snacks around. You don’t want to stop when you finally focus only to grab something to snack on.

Always have a bottle of water, or maybe 2.

If what you do it’s weird but it works for your studies, it’s not weird, it’s just a new method.

There’s no “talent” when it comes to languages, it’s just experience and some badass strategy behind the success. And this applies to studying in general from what i’ve seen.

Being organized and disciplined might not sound fun, but it saves your ass when motivation goes away.

Sooner or later, you realize that only you can get up and study. No one will give a shit if you do it or not, people are selfish, accept it.

Figure out if you are a planner person or not. Not everyone can follow a schedule.

Plan your breaks.

Just start doing something small. Once you start, you’ll work more than you planned.

Elle Woods, Rory Gilmore and Hermione Granger are the holy trinity. The motivation you can get from them is unimaginable.

Never underestimate the power of a motivation list. Just a list with people you admire can make you work. It’s that simple.

Sleeping enough is more important than you think!

You’re way much better than you imagine. You can deal with everything, just be confident.

Nothing is so difficult as you think it is, it gets easier once you work for a while.

Your mind will trick you and make you think in the middle of a study session that you can’t handle it but if you ignore that, you’ll realize it’s just a trick because you might not be used to study like that or for that long.

Organize your study space so you don’t waste 10 minutes. 10 minutes in which you might lose your mood for studying.

Keep a diary. Write in it your progress and your fears or whatever bothers you. You don’t need to write daily in it but just writing down and seeing what bothers you helps a bit.

Know why you’re studying! Without a goal in mind, in a couple of days, maybe weeks if you’re lucky, you’re gonna give up.

Studying in bed will make you sleepy.

Eating lunch will make you sleepy and a bit lazy so choose an easy task for that time of the day.

Studying in pajamas is nice, but that outfit kinda sets your mind in the “i go to sleep” mood so just take some clothes that you don’t sleep in. <strike>Let’s face it, we all have old clothes that we don’t want to throw away but we wear inside the house.</strike>

Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Never compare yourself to others. Your only competition is you.

Don’t be afraid to be outstanding.

It doesn’t matter if you have expensive pens or cheap ones, in the end, they all do their job.

There are people who like to decorate their notes, and there are people who like keeping them simple but everyone uses a highlighter at some point in their life.

You’ll ace everything by overlearning.

Others’ limits aren’t yours.

Don’t check your phone. If you check it once, you lost.

Same with the snooze option in the morning.

Instead of saying that you don’t have time, better say “I’m not a priority”. See what effect that has on you.

Don’t judge people. The weirdo that no one talks to might have life tips that will save you. Or even better, might be a friend for life.

Tips and tricks won’t work if you don’t.

Always have a trick or two saved for later. Others might not be your competition now but you never know who wants the same job as you in 10 years.

The sooner you start, the sooner you’re done.

When you feel down, remember 1 skill that was a pain to learn but now it’s something you love.

Learn to listen.

Your goals are important to you but many people won’t give a damn about them. Learn to let go people who don’t respect your goals/priorities.

If people hate you, they a) envy you because you’re amazing, b) they are just shitty or c) a+b.

Always be innovative. Why? People will copy what you do if you have success so always be 2 steps ahead.

Don’t stress over exams/tests/presentations that passed already. They are in the past, don’t overthink these.

There’s no point in collecting tips and resources if you don’t start using them.

It takes time to be disciplined but that’s not impossible. You just need to want and try over and over again until you’ve got it.

Get used to make mistakes, others don’t even remember them.

Most people can’t memorize very well in the morning, avoid learning new words after you wake up.

Learning and studying doesn’t usually imply memorization unless you need certain formulas, terms and definitions. However, many teachers accept to use your own words when talking about something. The point is to understand something, not to quote your textbook.

Failing is okay. Procrastinating is okay. What’s not okay it’s when you stop trying and working only because you have a bad day, week, month or year.

Everyone fails and everyone procrastinates, remember that. No one’s perfect.

When you can’t focus, find a way to calm down your mind. If you focus, you can work for hours but if you are distracted by a feeling/thought just stop and talk to yourself because everything you do that day will be almost useless; your mind is not with you.

Don’t just read passively, try to take notes or annotate so you actually pay attention to what you read. Read it 100 times and don’t pay attention or read it twice and understand everything, your choice.

Most people will gladly help, you just need to ask.

Be open minded.

Your teachers might not give you the grade you deserve, people might talk about you behind your back, no one might see your value but they aren’t important. You work for yourself and that’s important, who knows, maybe in 15 years these people will ask if you’re hiring. Karma is stalking everyone.

Your brain needs sugar, always have some chocolate/sweets around.

People will either hate you or love you. You shouldn’t care what they choose. Respect everyone, be yourself and love yourself. Who wants to be around you will stay in your life, don’t worry.

People don’t need to know what you’re doing 24/7. If they ask, tell them; if they don’t, don’t overshare.

Take your time to make/find a playlist for studying if you like having background noises while studying.

Bother to make one for motivation too.

Have at least 20 free hours weekly. Your brain needs a break too.

Not everyone needs to be like you, study like you or like what you do and that’s fine. After all, not everyone will have the same story.

Find a person who makes you feel better only by being around them. That kind of friend is priceless.

Try to read once in a while when you’re free. Maybe you learn something new.

Your attitude makes the difference. Just do your best and always be optimist.

When you have questions or you need help, just ask. Don’t assume things before asking. People might surprise you.

Don’t doubt yourself. You can do it, it’s just a matter of time.

People will betray you, your work won’t.

Always carry around your agenda or a small notebook/notepad. Just in case you need to write down a date, a phone number, just a reminder or you need to plan something.

Prepare for the worst but always hope for the best.

Learn how to know when you need breaks.

Also, learn how to control yourself during breaks. You don’t want to take a break of 5 minutes and end up with a 3 years one.

Nothing is impossible if you just ignore the negative comments and you focus on your goal(s).

Learn to enjoy studying so much that you’re frustrated when you can’t do it.

hey guys!!!

so this entire past month has been extremely, extremely stressful for me because i had so many exams and i only realised how hideously unprepared i was for them on the day before the exam, which was really really awful. so in the middle of september i created a studyblr to keep myself motivated + get some helpful tips from the studyblr community on how to go abt studying for tests. the results proved to be super helpful and ive resolved to keep running this blog for as long as i can, because it really helps me stay motivated and i’ve already learned so many things from the community, despite the fact that i’ve only been here for around a month.

but anyways, i decided to create this masterpost in order to help others stay motivated + keep studying not only well but also properly i.e. not necessarily studying for exams but life in general, if that makes sense.

~ staying motivated + focused

@owenabbott

Apply to a job, wait (1) day, then call. Give them your first and last name. Tell them you submitted an application and that you’re very motivated to find [Enter field name] work. Let the conversation lead you wherever it takes. Be very polite. Say” thank you for your time, I’ll be looking forward to hearing back from you.” Rinse, repeat. This is to force them to be looking out for your application.

When you get to the interview, shake their hand firmly, tell them your first and last name.

Describe your experiences as “ two years transcription and data entry” if you have a desk job interview and “ [however many years] costumer service, retail and stock” for your retail jobs.

Don’t use job “ buzz words” I stg they hear them all day. Say things like, “ I’m detail oriented and am very good at taking instruction.” “ I would like to work for a company with integrity and I feel that [ company name] would be a good fit”

When they ask you if you have “reliable transportation” say YES. don’t tell them what kind of transportation, just say yes. (if you don’t do this, you wont get the job , I’m telling you right now).

Research the company. Know what they do, why they do it, how OLD the company is. WHERE it was founded, and what kind of position you’re intending to apply for.

When they ask you “ give us a situation where you had to blah blah blah” Make one the fuck up. Make yourself sound good as hell, and like you put your company’s needs slightly above the customer’s needs, but make the customer happy.

If they ask you about being outgoing, Say you “like to focus on your work so you can concentrate on doing things right” (which buys you out of having to act friendly all the time)

Questions for after the interview:

1. Does this position offer upward mobility?

2. Do you enjoy working for the company? (if you’re not interviewing for a temp agency who will send you anywhere)

Then, shake their hand, Ask them to repeat their name (REMEMBER THIS) say thank you for your time, wish them a nice day and leave. write their name down outside if you have to, just remember the fuck out of it.

AFTER your interview, send a card directed to the name of the person who interviewed you (I’ll give you them) that says “Thank you for the interview, I appreciate the opportunity. have a great day” This shows that you have an understanding of professionalism, and will have them thinking of you kindly (or at least remembering you) when they’re shuffling through the choices.

DO NOT tell them you just moved to the city over the phone. In person, tell them you just moved to the city. Make it sound like the only reason you need a job is because you moved. Not because you’re desperate.

__________

Stenographer-Court Reporter

Surveyer ( you need a certificate for this, but its something you can get while working a temporary job and doing this on the side. Also, they make like $55,000 a year sooooooo) https://sjobs.brassring.com/TGWEbHost/jobdetails.aspx?jobId=1406428&PartnerId=16023&SiteId=5118&codes=IND

Real Estate Broker

Purchasing agents, except wholesale, retail, and farm products ( basically you arrange to buy large things) they make like 60K

Claims adjuster

Loan Officer

Subway driver (trains) they make like 60K,

I knew this but I’m reblogging cause someone might not know

I’m saving this.

This helped me get a job

Throwing up the hacks for y'all

for anyone who might need this

All of this is really good advice -

My addition would be to find out the name of the interviewer you’re meeting with before hand and pepper their name while you talk throughout the whole interview, but not too much and I emphasis the part about shaking their hand, thanking them for their time and saying their name when you do it

have 3 achievable goals a day: having a laundry list of things to do everyday is super unrealistic, and you just end up feeling bad about yourself because you didn’t accomplish your goals for the day.

leave your sundays open: i love sundays because they’re my day to chill out and catch up on school work that i wasn’t able to finish during the week.

recognize when you’re at your emotional limits: forcing yourself to get work done when you are unable to comprehend your study material does not benefit anyone.

learn how to say no: people will ask you for your time and it will stretch you to the limit, whether it be at your job, in your extracurriculars, or in your personal life. know when to step back and say no.

take care of yourself physically: take breaks, go for walks, shower regularly, get enough sleep, eat healthy, see your friends

celebrate your accomplishments: go out to eat with friends after a big exam, indulge in a night off after a busy week with some netflix and wine

make a study plan beforehand: it can be daunting to see how much work you need to put in to a class or task beforehand, but this allows you to spread your work evenly so you don’t become overwhelmed.

learn how to ask for help: it is very rare that people make it through school, whether it be high school or university or any graduate program, without needing the advice of others or just a kind soul to vent to. find that person.

never forget your hobbies: you will need things that keep you sane. if you love to play music, write, play volleyball, or cook, make you sure you don’t lose these things. they will become your escape when times get tough.

log off from time to time: it is exhausting to be constantly connected to social media and your email. just physically disconnecting from these for a night to take care of yourself can really help you clear your mind.

SURPRISE! So this tumblr will no longer be used to reblog fashion/aesthetic(?) posts. I’m officially turning it into a studyblr. Feel free to unfollow me if you do not wish to see any photos of study-related things.

it’s happened to all of us: we’ve failed that test,...

studyiish:

it’s happened to all of us: we’ve failed that test, forgot to hand in an assignment, or just seemed to be horrible at a subject, and in doing so, found ourselves with a less-than-desirable grade. so how do we fix that?

this is the method i’ve used in the past, and i hope it helps you out! they work really well for me, but obviously your mileage may vary.

don’t panic! this doesn’t mean you’re stupid or a failure. even if you end up with a bad grade, it probably won’t matter in the long run. get some perspective. obviously this is much easier said than done, and i’m particularly bad about this haha

find the root cause. why are you stuck with this grade? did you do badly on an important test, paper, or essay? or is it more consistent in that you seem to get mediocre grades on everything? figure out what’s bogging you down so you can fix it.

talk to your teacher. it’s more than likely that your teacher will understand if you talk to them – it shows that you are driven, and care about the class. don’t worry if you’re nervous, just go to them after class or during a study hall, and say that you wanted to talk about a certain test/your grade in the class. if the root cause of your grade is an important assignment, go through what you missed, and if you don’t understand why you missed something, ask them about it!!!! if you just can’t understand the subject, you should let you teacher know as well. obviously, if your teacher is rude or if you don’t feel comfortable talking to them, you don’t need to do this. try asking a parent or friend for help instead.

find your problem areas. now you need to go through all your assignments and see what you tend to get wrong! if it’s more detail-oriented (i.e. dates, percentages, formulas), try using flashcards or repetition to memorize these. if it’s the other way around, and you seem to have issues fitting the big picture together, lighten up on memorization and try drawing diagrams or mind maps.

study smarter. find a well-lit, comfortable place to sit that fits your preferences, and get to work! using the strategies to fix your problem areas detailed in #4, take a look at your material. if you find yourself getting distracted, try to move on to a different subject, find a different study area, or just take a break.

if you are still having problems, talk to someone! tell your teacher/parent/friend that you looked over what you missed and tried harder, but you still aren’t seeing a change. from there, you can get more tips on how to improve.

and that’s basically a general strategy to use! a few miscellaneous tips:

if you tend to not do well on exams but do well on your homework, try to go over the big picture more. also, to make up for them, try really hard not to miss points anywhere else. so you may not do great on the test, but if you do well in assignments, reviews, homework, etc. you can really bring your grade up! not the healthiest tip, but it got me through geometry with an a!

if you have a midterm/final, study really hard for it!! this goes without saying but it can really make or break your grade

try having a snack before you study! it helps if you aren’t thinking about food when you need to study for that final!

listen to music!! i love lofi hip-hop, try one of these livestreams!

so yeah! i hope these tips help you out!! this is my first ever resource post, so please give me tips and let me know how i can improve haha!

1. Familiarize yourselfReally get to know the work...

stvdybuddies:

1. Familiarize yourself
Really get to know the work that you will be analyzing. Whether it‘s a poem, short story, or play, make sure you read it over a number of times. It also doesn’t hurt to do some background research into the author and his/her writing styles.

2. Annotate
While reading, annotate the work and jot down some of the formal language you noticed. For example, the use of literary and formal features, themes, characters, tone etc.

Here is a link to some of the basic and most well-known literary devices:
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/575/01/

3. Theme/Topic
Choose the theme that you want to focus on (this may be a general, universal theme or specific literary features). The theme/topic may also have been assigned by your teachers.

Essay topics can range widely in specificity:

Romantic and familial love in Shakespeare sonnet #

John Milton’s use of paradoxes and juxtaposition to create a stark contrast between Satan and God in Book one of “Paradise Lost”

4. Find supportive evidence
Once you know your theme/topic, make sure you have enough supporting evidence to write a good essay. If not, you either want to go back and find more, or change to a more easily supported topic.

For example, you don’t want to write an essay on a poem’s use of metaphors, when all you can find are examples of the use of imagery.

5. Outline
Writing an outline really helps when writing any essay. I like to use a certain layout that I find is really effective in helping me structure my ideas:

Topic sentence:
Evidence #:
Literary Feature:
Importance (of the literary feature):

6. Putting it all together
Really take advantage of your outline when writing your essay! With all your ideas laid out, it’s really about putting your thoughts into coherent and fluent sentences.
